How long does it take to make my LMS SCORM Conformant?.
Typical implementations are completed in a period ranging from three days to two weeks. At the end of this engagement some minor work will likely remain (such as polishing graphics, testing content and preparing for release), but your LMS is at a point where it can be called SCORM conformant. The schedule for this process depends mostly on coordinating the availability of our consultants with the schedule of your internal resources. Typically this scheduling involves a time horizon of a few months, and we will make every effort possible to accommodate any schedule constraints you may have. [Answer]
What is expected of me during the integration process?.
We seek to provide as much assistance as possible to integrate the SCORM Engine into your LMS. We will embrace every opportunity to go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure a successful integration and a satisfied customer. That being said, your LMS is still your product, and we are going to need some help from you. Specifically, during the integration, we need access to a knowledgeable developer with the authority to make product design decisions. We also need a functional development environment where we can test the SCORM Engine against a working version of your product. In general, we avoid modifying your product as much as possible. Modifications have to be made, but we feel that your internal staff with in-depth knowledge of the system is much more qualified to make those modifications. [Answer]
How do you license the SCORM Engine? .
We typically license the SCORM Engine on a
per-product basis or through an enterprise-wide license. In each case, the price includes an integration fee and a license fee. These fees include consulting time to assist with your integration and maintenance agreements to ensure your conformance to the applicable versions of the specifications. [Answer]
What does the maintenance agreement cover?.
As the standards evolve and new interpretations emerge, we are constantly updating and improving the SCORM Engine. Licensed customers will receive periodic updates to the SCORM Engine that fix errors, increase compatibility and maintain adherence to changing specifications. These license agreements typically include third-tier technical support as well. [Answer]
Is the SCORM Engine open source?.
All licenses to the SCORM Engine include full access to the underlying source code for you to use in your product. The SCORM Engine is not an open-source product in the sense that it is not free nor can can the code be freely distributed. [Answer]
What kind of guarantee do you provide?.
We guarantee that when properly integrated with the SCORM Engine, your product will pass ADL Certification testing at the highest levels. [Answer]
Is the SCORM Engine certified? Will my LMS automatically be certified if I
use the SCORM Engine?.
ADL does not certify tools
such
as the SCORM Engine; however it does certify products that use those tools. ADL has formally certified our Sample LMS and SCORM Test Track (both of which use the SCORM Engine) at the highest levels for SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004. Even though you are using the SCORM Engine, your LMS will need to be independently submitted to ADL to achieve certification. We will gladly assist you with this process as part of the integration — and we even guarantee that your LMS will pass these tests. [Answer]
What content have you tested the SCORM Engine with?.
The SCORM
Engine is used in dozens of LMSs and has successfully integrated with content from hundreds of vendors. Unfortunately, it is very difficult for us to maintain a comprehensive list, but we can assure you that the SCORM Engine can deliver content from all the major vendors. The SCORM Engine has a very good track record for courseware compatibility, and virtually any course that passes the ADL Test Suite will play without issue. We are focused on true interoperability and should a compatibility problem arise with a conformant course, we will gladly investigate and determine if it is possible for us to “bend, but not break” to ensure that it will work. [Answer]
What are the minimum requirements for running the SCORM Engine?.
The SCORM Engine works best on a server capable of running ASP.NET with access to a relational database such as SQL Server, Oracle or MySQL. The SCORM Engine can also run on Java application servers such as Apache Tomcat, JBoss, WebLogic, WebShpere and it can fully operate without database access if necessary. No other software is required on the server. On the client side, the SCORM Engine has been successfully tested in IE 5+, Firefox 1+, Netscape 7.1+ and Safari 1.2+. No plug-ins, Java applets or other proprietary controls are needed. If you need to deliver SCORM content in an environment which cannot meet these minimum requirements, please give us a call. We have several alternative solutions that might meet your needs. [Answer]
Can I evaluate, demo or try the SCORM Engine?.
Of course. The SCORM Test Track application is essentially a hosted version of the SCORM Engine with a front end interface designed for testing content. You can sign
up for a free account and use the SCORM Engine to your heart's content. Or, contact
us to request an online demo with one of our consultants. We will be happy to walk you through the product and answer any questions you may have. [Answer]
