Welcome… “Now what?”
SCORM Test Track is a fairly straightforward application. Once you’ve successfully registered, you’ll be able to log in to the home page. From here, your first step is to simply upload a course.
If you don’t have a piece of content ready and waiting, start by downloading a sample piece of content to your local hard drive (remember where you put it). These courses will work without issue, allowing you to explore the simple functionality that SCORM Test Track makes available.
Supported Content
If you’ve brought your own test package, you’ll need to know that SCORM Test Track supports the same content types as the SCORM Engine: SCORM 1.1, SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 2nd Edition, SCORM 2004 3rd Edition, SCORM 2004 4th Edition, some AICC content, and, on occasion, standards prior to their official release.
Any piece of SCORM content is best uploaded as a PIF file (package interchange format). A PIF is basically a zip file that meets certain criteria, including the presence of an imsmanifest. This zip file can be uploaded via the upload control pictured below.
AICC content can be uploaded/launched at SCORM Test Track under certain circumstances. AICC content with a fully qualified URL in the AU file (this is typically remotely hosted AICC content) can be uploaded by zipping the four AICC descriptor files together (AU, CRS, CST, & DES) and uploading the result.
Local AICC content (which typically includes both the descriptor files and the media files) can also be tested on SCORM Test Track provided the AU file uses a relative reference for the location of the launch files. Again, the four descriptor files should be zipped up, this time with the media, and uploaded via the upload control.
The Import Control
Uploading a course via the Import Control is as simple as clicking browse, selecting the file off your local machine, and clicking “Import”. Provided the package is a valid one (or even something close), SCORM Test Track will upload the file, extract it to the appropriate location, and parse the manifest or AICC descriptor files. In doing this, the SCORM Test Track (and the SCORM Engine) are able to understand the structure of your content.
