Implementation Fest Thoughts

Having just returned from Implementation Fest 2005 in Orlando, FL, I wanted to share a couple of brief thoughts with the community. Implementation Fest is an event organized by the Joint ADL Co-Lab in Orlando, FL. Focus areas included the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative, the state of Distributed Learning in the Services, and Game-based Learning.

My personal thoughts:

CORDRA is coming. CORDRA, at its most basic, is going to serve as a mechanism for finding content. Much like they did 7 or 8 years ago with SCORM, the ADL and the DoD are throwing their weight behind CORDRA. Whether or not industry follows suit on this one is yet to be seen, but we will certainly be following it.
Within the DoD, it seems that everything short of email will have to conform to SCORM. Literally, saved Word documents may well have to be SCORM conformant.
Who is going to take over the "stewardship" of SCORM. ADL intends to hand over the standard to industry and others. Who will take this role?
The state of content in the services is far beyond what most of industry is doing. The gaming and simulation stuff available is really quite impressive and engaging. Adoption of content of this quality will only serve to increase the usefulness of online training.
